Black LIVES matter

#BlackLivesMatter was founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer in February 2012 in Florida.

Black Lives Matter Foundation, Inc. is a global organization in the US, UK, and Canada, whose mission is to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes. By combating and countering acts of violence, creating space for Black imagination and innovation, and centering Black joy.

The movement returned to national headlines and gained further international attention during the global George Floyd protests in 2020 following Floyd's death by police officer Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

"To protest the murder of George Floyd and the systemic racism that keeps African Americans from living fully free lives in America. We also want to stand strongly in solidarity with victims of racial oppression in Italy and denounce white supremacy everywhere and anywhere it festers."
